Senior Plan Check Engineer (California Building Codes)

Location: Newman, California; candidates must live locally or within California. Hybrid role with required visits to client offices, job sites, and other business-related locations as needed. No relocation expenses are provided.

Salary: $108,861–$156,000 USD per year

What you will do

• Review residential, multi-family, and commercial construction documents, including drawings, calculations, soils reports, electronic plans, and specifications.
• Evaluate designs for compliance with California Building Standards Codes, Reference Standards, and other governing codes and ordinances.
• Apply engineering judgment to structural, life-safety, and other technical code reviews.
• Prepare effective plan check correction notices and suggest alternate forms of compliance where appropriate.
• Supervise Plan Check Engineers and prepare oral and written reports.
• Coordinate with government agencies, civic organizations, architects, contractors, engineers, clients, and the public.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of experience reviewing plans for compliance with California Building Standards Codes and Reference Standards.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Current California Professional Engineer license required.
• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices applied to building design and construction.
• ICC Building, Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing Plans Examiner Certification, additional applicable ICC certifications, or CASp Certification as required for the role.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Bluebeam Studio, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and related systems; ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively.
