Senior Substation Electrical Engineer I (High-Voltage Power Infrastructure)

What you will do

• Develop preliminary scopes of work and lead pre-engineering job walks with construction, maintenance, operations, IT, telecommunications, field engineering, and testing stakeholders.
• Create, approve, and publish meeting minutes, technical design specifications, and updated AutoCAD drawings.
• Manage in-house substation design projects, mentor junior engineers, and oversee prime engineering contractors through project milestones.
• Order major equipment and review contractor cost proposals, purchase order requests, change orders, and service sheets.
• Provide technical support during installation, testing, commissioning, operational projects, and service reliability initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with NERC standards and lead adherence to rigorous electrical safety practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a closely related scientific, technical, or mathematical field.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in electrical substation engineering and design.
• Working knowledge of electrical codes, industry standards, guides, and methods for high-voltage installations.
• Hands-on experience developing, reviewing, and updating engineering drawings in AutoCAD.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong organization, communication, field meeting, stakeholder facilitation, and technical documentation skills.

Nice to have

• 5 or more years of progressive engineering experience in the power utility sector.
• Experience with power utility substations from 4kV through 500kV.
• Active Professional Engineer license in California.
