Sr. Trial Attorney (Remote from Buffalo, Syracuse, or Rochester Area) (Insurance Defense)

Location: Remote from the Buffalo, Syracuse, or Rochester area in Upstate New York; the role covers counties throughout Upstate New York and involves frequent travel with occasional overnight travel.

Salary: $138,000–$243,000 annually; expected starting range: $138,000–$206,000.

What you will do

• Represent clients independently as lead counsel or as part of a team in commercial and personal lines insurance defense litigation.
• Handle civil litigation matters across courts and agencies in assigned Upstate New York jurisdictions.
• Manage a productive caseload involving varying levels of complexity, severity, product lines, and specialized concentrations.
• Prepare case valuations and provide timely, legally and analytically sound recommendations to clients and claims partners.
• Monitor changes in law, technology, local rules, and procedural requirements affecting litigation strategies.
• Mentor junior attorneys and legal staff through guidance, training, coaching, and feedback.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Active license in New York or the state where the position is located.
• More than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation, preferably including automobile litigation.
• Significant trial advocacy, negotiation, analytical, legal writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage complex cases, prioritize work, use legal technology, and adapt to electronic filing and changing court systems.
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record; a credit and/or background check is required.
