Scientific Programmer (AWS Serverless)

Location: Remote. The role supports NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information and is associated with the Vienna, Virginia headquarters.

Salary: $60,000–$62,000 per year.

What you will do

• Modernize legacy systems by transitioning them to modern and cloud-native architectures.
• Monitor and maintain infrastructure to support high availability and performance.
• Design and implement scalable serverless solutions and backend automation.
• Develop and integrate data-processing systems, RESTful APIs, and web interfaces.
• Maintain architectural and code documentation through pull requests and quality-control practices.
• Manage automated deployment pipelines and GitLab CI/CD workflows.

Requirements

• Public Trust clearance is required.
• At least two years of experience and a degree in IT, information systems, computer science, software engineering, or equivalent practical training.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash for automation and data processing.
• Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda, serverless architecture, React, TypeScript, PL/SQL, and relational databases.
• Advanced knowledge of Git and GitLab CI/CD, plus experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs.

Nice to have

• Experience with data-heavy contracts, meteorological data formats, or data stewardship.
• Experience migrating or refactoring aging infrastructure into cloud-native environments.
• Agile/Scrum experience and familiarity with AWS security best practices.
