TL;DR
Competence Engineer (Electrical and Mechanical Systems): Supporting product development through hands-on testing, prototyping, troubleshooting, and operation of electrical and mechanical laboratory systems with an accent on test equipment, precision measurement, calibration, and laboratory safety. Focus on maintaining development labs, assembling and commissioning test stands, solving complex electromechanical problems, and applying 5S and continuous improvement practices.

Location: Wilton, Connecticut, United States; daily onsite presence required

hirify.global develops, integrates, markets, and services lithography machines used by leading chipmakers to produce smaller and more powerful microchips.

What you will do

  • Own and operate one or more development laboratories, including lab scheduling, access requests, equipment inventory, and customer communication.
  • Set up and operate electrical and mechanical test equipment, collect and analyze data, and support product development testing.
  • Assemble, wire, commission, and maintain test stands, electrical cabinets, prototypes, and functional models.
  • Perform troubleshooting, precision measurements, instrumentation, and continuous improvement of laboratory and project activities.
  • Maintain calibration, equipment readiness, housekeeping, 5S+1 practices, and compliance with applicable safety procedures.
  • Train and supervise lab users, coordinate repairs, and collaborate with engineers, technicians, support teams, and EHS.

Requirements

  • High school degree with 5 years of relevant experience; or technical certification with 3 years; or an associate degree with 3 years; alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • Required analytical and pragmatic approach to troubleshooting.
  • Required experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to work with electrical and mechanical tools, instrumentation, measuring devices, pneumatic and water lines, and precision measurements at micron and sub-micron levels.
  • Must be legally authorized to access United States-controlled technology before starting work.

Nice to have

  • Experience owning or supporting a product test laboratory.
  • Cleanroom experience and knowledge of 5S, Lean Principles, or TQM.
  • Project management, reliability, and safety knowledge.
  • Experience with MS Visio and Planner.
