Senior Scientist, Brita Water Filter R&D Product Development (Water Filtration)

Location: Pleasanton, California, USA; hybrid with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office. Relocation assistance is offered.

Salary: $109,400–$210,000 annual base range for Zone A; additional Zone B and Zone C ranges may apply based on work location.

What you will do

• Lead Brita filter product development from concept development, formulation and design through prototyping, testing, scale-up and start of production.
• Develop filter specifications, process parameters and performance requirements through laboratory experiments, pilot trials and full-scale manufacturing.
• Lead complex technical programs and translate consumer, business, regulatory, quality and manufacturing needs into product requirements and commercialization plans.
• Act as the R&D technical lead across Marketing, Insights, Design, Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory, Legal, suppliers, plants and external manufacturers.
• Drive technical excellence with filtration suppliers, domestic and international manufacturing partners, including risk assessment, test methods and design for manufacturing.
• Use data analysis, digital tools, models and AI-enabled methods to improve technical decisions, learning, documentation and R&D delivery; travel up to approximately 25%.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in R&D, product development, product or process design, formulation, materials, chemistry, water treatment, filtration, analytical chemistry or manufacturing scale-up.
• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, materials science or engineering, biomedical engineering or a related technical field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Experience with product development, commercialization, technology development, product design, verification and validation, technology transfer or related technical work.
• Strong technical judgment and hands-on experience with testing, statistics, design of experiments, tolerance assessment, capability analysis and sample-size rationale.
• Ability to lead ambiguous technical work, influence cross-functional stakeholders and convert regulatory, quality, consumer and manufacturing constraints into technical decisions.
• Knowledge of drinking-water, filtration or treatment standards, including EPA requirements, NSF/ANSI methods or third-party certification, is preferred.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, materials science or engineering, polymer science, water resources engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in consumer products, food and beverage, beverage systems, appliances, medical filtration, diagnostics, applied biotechnology, specialty chemicals or regulated manufacturing.
• Direct filtration, water treatment, filtration media or consumer products experience.
