Sr. Embedded Engineer, Digital (IoT)

Location: Hybrid onsite in Escondido, California, United States; approximately 15% travel required.

Salary: $150,000–$164,000 yearly.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, release, and maintain production firmware for embedded systems, microcontrollers, and SoC platforms.
• Develop and debug low-level drivers and interfaces including UART, SPI, I2C, RS-485, GPIO, ADC, PWM, timers, and DMA.
• Implement and validate wireless connectivity for connected water and IoT products, including RF testing, antenna evaluation, range testing, and link-quality analysis.
• Perform board bring-up, hardware validation, circuit-level troubleshooting, schematic and PCB design, and development of test hardware.
• Support the full product lifecycle from requirements and architecture through verification, manufacturing release, certification, and field support.
• Collaborate with product, hardware, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, compliance, and customer-facing teams.

Requirements

• At least seven years of professional experience across embedded firmware and hardware or electrical engineering.
• Production firmware development in C for embedded systems, microcontrollers, or embedded SoCs, including shipped commercial products.
• Experience with bare-metal and RTOS environments, hardware debugging, JTAG, SWD, Git, and modern software development workflows.
• Ability to read schematics and datasheets, design PCB schematics and layouts, perform board validation, and use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters.
• Experience with RF and wireless testing methodologies and associated test equipment.
• Must successfully establish employment eligibility and complete background checks.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Experience with sub-GHz and 915 MHz RF systems, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, cellular communications, or link-budget analysis.
• Familiarity with FCC Part 15, UL, NSF, MQTT, cloud IoT platforms, device provisioning, and OTA firmware updates.
• Experience with Python automation, low-power or battery-operated devices, manufacturing ramp-up, and production test systems.
• Background in IoT, building automation, plumbing, industrial controls, HVAC, or related industries.
