Sr. Principal Software Engineer (Autonomous Systems)

Location: Moorpark, California, United States; office work required

Salary: $170,000–$272,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead plans, architecture, design, development, testing, and lifecycle activities for software supporting autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles.
• Supervise technical software development and ensure delivery within agreed schedules and budgets.
• Derive software architecture and algorithm designs from detailed requirements.
• Lead internal and external software design reviews and oversee software design documentation.
• Coordinate with multiple software development teams, report progress to senior management, and improve development processes.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and provide knowledge transfer.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent education and experience.
• 15+ years of relevant Windows or Linux application software development experience and object-oriented design expertise.
• Expertise in C#/.NET, C++, C, and/or Python, with experience writing unit tests and debugging code.
• Experience with formal software lifecycle processes, SDLC, STLC, Agile development, Git, CI/CD tools, IDEs, and debuggers.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR or be eligible for an export license; U.S. citizenship is required for some contracts.

Nice to have

• M.S. or Ph.D. degree.
• Experience with computer vision, machine learning, embedded systems, UAS, drones, robotics, autonomous vehicles, or real-time control systems.
• Knowledge of advanced estimation techniques, databases, operating systems, and networking.
