Medical Coding Team Lead (Emergency Medicine)

What you will do

• Supervise medical coders by assigning workloads, monitoring productivity, conducting performance reviews, and providing coaching.
• Audit medical records and review ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier usage for accuracy and compliance.
• Onboard new hires, create training materials, and provide ongoing education and mentorship.
• Resolve complex coding questions and discrepancies as the escalation point for the team.
• Collaborate with providers, billing, compliance, and other departments to improve documentation clarity and coding accuracy.
• Track KPIs, quality metrics, and productivity while identifying denial and error trends for process improvement.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States.
• Several years of medical coding experience, typically 3–5 or more years, with supervisory or lead experience.
• CPC, CCS, RHIT, or equivalent AAPC/AHIMA certification.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, CMS, and HIPAA requirements.
• Analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with accuracy, flexibility, and professionalism.
