TL;DR
Resident Paint Engineer (Automotive Manufacturing): Leading machinery and equipment projects for vehicle paint systems from concept and procurement through installation, commissioning, and plant integration with an accent on paint-shop equipment, supplier coordination, and manufacturing execution. Focus on managing complex field changes, debugging and safety buyoffs, investigating equipment failures, and supporting production-critical plant activities.

Location: Full-time onsite at GM's manufacturing facility in Wentzville, Missouri, United States; occasional work from home may be available when business needs allow. Weekend work and plant-shutdown support may be required. Relocation benefits are available for eligible candidates.

Company

hirify.global develops vehicles, battery systems, intelligent software, safety features, and connected mobility products.

What you will do

  • Develop project concepts, scopes of work, bid specifications, schedules, and engineering service requirements for Paint Shop projects.
  • Procure long-lead machinery, equipment, and facilities items while supporting purchasing bid and award activities.
  • Lead technical bid reviews and coordinate suppliers and manufacturers through equipment engineering, fabrication, and delivery.
  • Manage design changes, field orders, scope, cost, schedule, and technical documentation.
  • Oversee onsite installation, construction coordination, machinery integration, startup, debugging, commissioning, and functional and safety buyoffs.
  • Act as the liaison between the plant and Vehicle Systems while supporting equipment failure reporting, color trials, Paint 4-Walls reporting, and durability audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent engineering experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in manufacturing, industrial facilities, machinery and equipment, project execution, or a related field.
  • Experience developing project scopes, specifications, schedules, purchase requisitions, and technical documentation.
  • Experience coordinating suppliers, contractors, plant stakeholders, and cross-functional teams through project execution.
  • Ability to manage projects independently, solve complex problems, and work effectively in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Must be able to support plant shutdowns and occasional weekend work; GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

Nice to have

  • Experience specifying, commissioning, operating, refurbishing, or upgrading paint-shop equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of phosphate, ELPO, ovens, air houses, paint mix, sludge, sealing, primer, and topcoat processes.
  • Experience in vehicle manufacturing or paint-shop environments.
  • Familiarity with equipment procurement, supplier technical reviews, field-order processes, and safety buyoffs.
  • Experience with equipment failure investigations, production-loss reporting, durability audits, or color trials.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work with teams focused on safer, smarter, and more connected transportation.
  • Benefits and total rewards are available from the first day of employment.
  • Relocation benefits may be available under company policy.
  • Work from home may occasionally be permitted when business needs and project activities allow.

Hiring process

  • Applicants may be required to complete role-related assessments and pre-employment screening.
