Design and Release Engineer - Seat Structure (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan; on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. Travel up to 15% or up to 25% may be required for plant builds, supplier visits, test events, and launch support. Relocation assistance is not provided.

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, integration, and production release of complex rear seat structures and subsystems.
• Define subsystem Statements of Requirements and maintain Interface Control Documents while resolving cross-system interface conflicts.
• Lead technical and design reviews, Product Development Team activities, timing, parts lists, risk mitigation, and DFM/DFMA considerations.
• Evaluate cost, mass, timing, manufacturability, safety, quality, and complexity trade-offs to recommend technical directions.
• Coordinate with program teams, plants, suppliers, CAE, validation, purchasing, quality, manufacturing, durability, NVH, and safety teams.
• Support vehicle launches at assembly plants and supplier facilities, resolve issues, manage changes, and drive permanent corrective actions.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of product development experience, preferably with structural components or seating systems.
• Ability to read and analyze 3D math data and review designs using Vis-Mock-up or an equivalent tool.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and mechanics knowledge, with the ability to connect system performance to component-level decisions.
• Ability to work independently, make technical judgments, manage multiple programs, and drive issues to closure.
• Must be able to work on-site in Warren, Michigan at least three days per week and must not require GM immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Product Design Release experience through multiple GVDP cycles.
• Knowledge of product development processes, FMVSS regulations, vehicle-level requirements, GVDP milestones, and sign-off criteria.
• Automotive OEM experience, especially in seating or body structures.
• Experience with DFSS, Red-X, 8D, root-cause analysis, and other structured problem-solving methods.
• DFSS certification and strong cross-functional influencing skills.
