Distinguished Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite at the Crossman Respect Building home office

Salary: $169,000–$338,000 annually, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain production-grade marketplace services.
• Lead end-to-end technical design across API contracts, user interfaces, data models, distributed system topologies, and cross-cutting concerns.
• Build scalable, cloud-native AI-powered systems and intelligent automation solutions.
• Own the architecture, design, development, and delivery of seller onboarding and item setup journeys.
• Drive operational excellence through code reviews, technical guidance, architectural decisions, CI/CD, observability, and incident management.
• Mentor engineers, resolve architectural bottlenecks, automate manual processes, and collaborate across teams.

Requirements

• Hands-on coding expertise and ownership of implementation from detailed design through production deployment.
• Extensive experience designing and developing scalable, cloud-native software systems and AI-powered solutions.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, platform design, DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and incident management.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 6 years of software engineering experience, or 8 years of software engineering experience.
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, collaboration, mentorship, and technical judgment skills.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
