Staff Software Engineer (AI)

What you will do

• Provide hands-on technical leadership for a backend engineering team and define technical direction, architecture, and engineering standards.
• Architect and build production-grade cloud-native backend services, APIs, event-driven systems, and data pipelines.
• Develop large-scale content processing, search, retrieval, and AI-powered capabilities within strict security, permissions, governance, and data protection boundaries.
• Improve system performance, reliability, scalability, cost efficiency, observability, and developer experience across regions.
• Own complex technical initiatives from design through deployment and ongoing operation, including documentation of system designs and architectural decisions.
• Partner with Product, Design, Platform Services, and engineering teams while mentoring engineers and leading knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production-grade systems at scale.
• 3+ years providing technical leadership and influencing engineering direction and practices.
• Deep experience designing and operating distributed, cloud-native backend systems, preferably with AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB, and S3.
• Strong experience with event-driven and service-oriented architectures, asynchronous processing, queueing, idempotency, failure handling, retries, and high-volume performance.
• Strong backend development experience in C#/.NET or another modern backend language such as Python, Java, or Go, plus production observability, automated testing, CI/CD, and service operations experience.

Nice to have

• Experience building search, retrieval, data-intensive systems, or high-throughput processing pipelines.
• Familiarity with semantic search, vector search, embeddings, and retrieval-augmented generation.
• Experience with document management, content services, B2B SaaS, legal technology, or regulated and security-sensitive environments.
• Experience integrating AI or agent-facing services into production applications.
• Open-source contributions, technical writing, or broader technical knowledge sharing.
