System Administrator (Linux)

Location: Washington, D.C.; no remote or telework allowed

Salary: $84,975.05–$147,755.13 per year. The posting also lists $1,000 under Salary.

What you will do

• Manage and maintain high-performance lab environments for availability, scalability, and reliable operation.
• Design, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems and LAN/WAN infrastructure.
• Implement cybersecurity controls, firewalls, encryption standards, and access controls.
• Develop automation scripts with Bash, PowerShell, Ansible, and Python.
• Support software builds and Git-based version control in line with government and end-user requirements.
• Translate technical requirements into actionable plans and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5–7 years of hands-on Linux system administration experience; equivalent pathways include 3–5 years with a master’s degree or 0–2 years with a PhD.
• Experience with hardware and software infrastructure, security protocols, firewalls, encryption, and access controls.
• Knowledge of DoD security standards, including STIGs, and experience with government or defense-related projects.
• Active US SECRET DoD security clearance and ability to obtain a TS clearance required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with VMware or Proxmox hypervisors.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Prior DoD contracting experience and familiarity with Naval Research Lab environments.
