TL;DR
System Administrator (Windows/Linux): Maintaining operating systems, applications, security controls, backups, and user support systems in a secure federal environment with an accent on system administration, troubleshooting, and security compliance. Focus on automating repetitive tasks, supporting deskside and VIP users, managing backup and recovery solutions, and resolving infrastructure issues across flexible Eastern Time shifts.
Location: Washington, DC; onsite in a secure federal environment. Travel is less than 10%, with occasional movement between nearby Department of State buildings. The role requires flexibility between 1st shift (6:00 AM–2:00 PM Eastern) and 2nd shift (2:00 PM–10:00 PM Eastern).

What you will do
- Install, configure, maintain, and patch operating systems, applications, and related software.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot infrastructure issues, and provide help desk, deskside, and VIP support.
- Implement security controls, conduct security audits, and apply updates to protect systems from cyber threats.
- Design, maintain, and regularly test backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Document system configurations, procedures, troubleshooting steps, performance, capacity, and security information.
- Identify automation opportunities and collaborate with IT teams and stakeholders to improve operational efficiency.
Requirements
- Active Top Secret clearance with eligibility for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Five years of experience in IT support, system administration, or a related role.
- Security+ certification.
- Strong knowledge of Windows and/or Linux operating systems, virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V, and networking concepts.
- Ability to perform physical duties including lifting IT equipment up to 30 pounds independently and supporting heavier team-lift items.
