What you will do
- Prepare, compound, verify, and dispense pharmaceuticals, including sterile products, chemotherapy, biologics, controlled substances, and investigational medications.
- Evaluate medication orders for completeness and appropriateness and consult with providers and nurses to clarify orders.
- Optimize drug therapy by identifying, resolving, and preventing drug-related problems and adverse drug events.
- Perform medication and pharmacy quality-control activities, including compounding logs, refrigerator temperatures, hood cleaning, emergency-cart checks, and controlled-substance inventory.
- Review investigational protocols against medication orders and oversee pharmacy technicians and students as assigned.
- Support the training and orientation of newly hired pharmacists and technicians.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy, or completion of a PGY1 residency.
- Three years of hospital pharmacy, ambulatory care, or sterile compounding experience, or five years of retail pharmacy experience including two years in oncology.
- Current license to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is required.
- Knowledge of pharmacy regulations, drug-information resources, medication safety, critical thinking, and quality-control practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with patients, providers, nurses, and cross-functional teams.
- Rotating shifts are required; weekend and evening shifts are not open.
