Senior R&D Technical Project Manager (Fusion Energy)

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site

Salary: $140,000–$200,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Manage a portfolio of small to mid-sized R&D projects involving next-generation high-temperature superconducting magnet systems.
• Lead first-of-a-kind projects from concept through first-article prototypes and production ramp-up.
• Coordinate matrixed teams of engineers, designers, analysts, procurement specialists, and other stakeholders.
• Manage technical tradeoffs involving scalability, design for manufacturability, material selection, coating technologies, and tolerancing.
• Develop project plans, manage schedules and resources, and identify and mitigate delivery risks.
• Act as a technical liaison between executives, engineering teams, external suppliers, and scale-up efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in science, engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of technical experience, including at least 5 years managing new product integration projects.
• Experience with scope and requirements definition, schedule planning, risk and budget management, stakeholder communication, and project execution.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and serving as a technical liaison with executives, engineering groups, and external suppliers.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and team leadership skills.
• Ability to work on-site in an industrial facility and perform extended periods of standing, sitting, stooping, or typing; occasional travel, night/weekend work, or on-call support may be required.

Nice to have

• PMP or equivalent project management certification.
• Experience managing budgets above $10 million and matrixed teams of 15 or more people.
• Experience developing, fabricating, and testing large, complex prototypes or processes.
• Familiarity with fusion technologies such as cryogenics, vacuum systems, high-current electrical systems, or molten salts.
