Senior Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey, United States; remote, hybrid, or onsite options are available. An active New Jersey Bar license is required.

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Independently handle complex insurance defense matters, including court appearances, depositions, briefs, discovery, and trials.
• Develop case themes, litigation strategies, and approaches for matters involving significant exposure and complicated liability issues.
• Communicate routinely with clients and insurance carriers and cultivate relationships with existing and prospective clients.
• Prepare witnesses and cases for mediation and trial while keeping matters progressing toward resolution.
• Collaborate with attorneys at all experience levels and provide leadership and direction to less experienced attorneys.
• Use AI-enabled legal resources, advanced research technology, case management systems, and the APEX litigation methodology.

Requirements

• Active New Jersey Bar license required.
• JD from an ABA-approved law school.
• At least five years of substantive New Jersey insurance defense experience; 8+ years of solid litigation experience is requested.
• Experience with full case handling, including discovery, depositions, litigation support, trial preparation, and trials.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, manage time effectively, and exercise professional judgment.
• Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and time management systems.

Nice to have

• Experience handling insurance defense matters.
• Experience with professional liability, medical malpractice, catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, or insurance coverage litigation.
