Engineer II - Automotive Engineering

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States; onsite role. Requires the right to work in the United States and does not offer employment-based visa or work authorization sponsorship.

What you will do

• Calibrate engine control systems to meet emissions, fuel economy, OBD, regulatory, and customer requirements.
• Execute engine control development activities with calibration teams and powertrain groups in North America and Japan.
• Collect and analyze testing data, prepare technical reports, and investigate calibration issues.
• Confirm software logic and calibration values before critical ECU milestones.
• Develop calibration schedules, testing procedures, analysis tools, and process documentation.
• Support emission homologation and conduct vehicle testing under varied environmental and tolerance conditions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 3 years of experience in engine calibration and tailpipe emissions, including U.S. Federal and California regulations.
• Understanding of internal combustion engines, engine control systems, and emission homologation.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, C/C++, and data acquisition tools such as INCA or Vehicle Spy.
• Valid driving capability and an acceptable motor vehicle record are required.
• Willingness to work up to 20% overtime, including weekends, and travel domestically and internationally.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or higher in engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline.
• Experience with hybrid powertrain emissions, drivability, or OBD calibration.
• Experience with competitor vehicle emissions benchmarking and large datasets.
• Knowledge of Model-Based Design, automotive testing standards, software management, Python, or VBA.
• Experience calibrating engine controls for Japan, Europe, China, or other international markets.
