Design Release Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid work with a minimum of three days per week in the Warren office

What you will do

• Develop tire and wheel content plans, component requirements, and technical documentation for vehicle programs.
• Partner with Design Studio, Program Management, Purchasing, suppliers, and engineering teams to develop production-feasible wheel and tire designs.
• Balance mass, cost, complexity, performance, quality, and timing targets throughout product development.
• Lead product development meetings and coordinate supplier, validation, testing, and specifications activities.
• Manage wheel development, validation, component releases, engineering changes, and launch readiness.
• Resolve technical issues using structured problem-solving and data-driven engineering analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, or a related Engineering discipline.
• At least 2 years of experience as a Design Release Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Component Engineer, or in a comparable engineering role.
• Experience designing, developing, integrating, or releasing automotive components or other complex engineered products.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and coordinating suppliers or external partners.
• Strong knowledge of engineering theory, product design principles, component development processes, analytical methods, and problem-solving.
• Ability to report to the Warren office at least three times per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with tire and wheel systems or automotive chassis components.
• Design for Six Sigma methods or certification.
• Teamcenter, Siemens NX, eMERGE, or similar engineering and product lifecycle management tools.
• FEA, durability testing, validation planning, production release, automotive supplier, or vehicle launch experience.
• Familiarity with GM engineering, release, and product development processes.
