TL;DR
Network Engineer (CBP) (Network Infrastructure/Operational Technology): Designing, testing, deploying, and sustaining secure network infrastructure for CBP operational technology and tactical systems with an accent on routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, wireless networks, cloud connectivity, and Watchtower MDM. Focus on building representative laboratory environments, validating connectivity across edge and disconnected scenarios, resolving complex interoperability issues, and supporting field deployment and network operations.

Location: Ashburn, Virginia, United States; onsite. Travel required up to 25%. US citizenship and existing DHS EOD or DHS Suitability required.

Salary: $115,000–$155,000 per year

What you will do

  • Design, configure, implement, troubleshoot, optimize, and document secure network solutions for CBP OTOC, Watchtower, operational technology, and tactical systems.
  • Configure and support routers, switches, firewalls, VPN gateways, wireless infrastructure, network services, cloud connectivity, and secure network segmentation.
  • Provide connectivity engineering for Android, Windows, Linux, iOS, radio, sensor, wearable, and tactical endpoints managed through Watchtower MDM.
  • Build and maintain representative laboratory environments and execute connectivity, interoperability, performance, failover, regression, and acceptance testing.
  • Support staging, deployment, fielding, acceptance testing, transition to operations, and troubleshooting at operational locations.
  • Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support, root cause analysis, network monitoring, configuration management, security remediation, documentation, briefings, and knowledge transfer.

Requirements

  • US citizenship required.
  • Existing DHS EOD or DHS Suitability required.
  • Experience with IPv4/IPv6, subnetting, VLANs, routing, switching, NAT, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, access control, and secure segmentation.
  • Experience with packet captures, logs, monitoring platforms, command-line diagnostics, network documentation, and configuration baselines.
  • Knowledge of PKI, X.509 certificates, certificate authorities, identity services, and certificate lifecycle processes.
  • Availability for an assigned 8-hour day shift, onsite work, and up to 25% travel.
