Senior Software Engineer - Runtime Services (Automotive)

Location: Pittsburgh, PA; Palo Alto, CA; or Detroit, MI, United States

Salary: $179,200–$268,800 USD annual base salary in California, plus potential bonus and equity compensation

hirify.global, a Ford Motor Company subsidiary, develops in-house hands-free advanced driver assistance technology and runtime infrastructure for automated driving.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and test reliable, high-performance software supporting autonomy functions.
• Build core C++ libraries, custom data structures, configuration, serialization, and code generation frameworks for realtime Linux and embedded environments.
• Develop tools that provide insight into system performance and behavior.
• Integrate runtime infrastructure with localization, perception, planning, controls, simulation, and onboard platform systems.
• Create automated unit and integration tests and support accurate off-vehicle simulation testing.
• Develop software architecture and work with Product Security and Functional Safety teams to meet automotive safety requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience; equivalent master’s or PhD pathways are accepted.
• At least 5+ years of modern C++ development experience in a systems programming role.
• Hands-on experience developing high-performance C++ applications or robotics software in resource-constrained environments.
• Experience developing in Linux or Unix environments.
• Ability to design software components and systems and communicate designs through documents, diagrams, and presentations.
• Strong collaboration skills for cross-functional software delivery.

Nice to have

• Experience with Bazel, ROS or another robotics platform, JSON/YAML configuration, or Protobuf compiler plugins.
• Experience with driver monitoring systems and publish/subscribe communication models such as Iceoryx or ZeroMQ.
• Experience with distributed and concurrent programming, POSIX APIs, and embedded or realtime operating systems.
• Familiarity with ISO-26262 or other software safety standards.
