Senior C++ Software Engineer (Machine Control)

Location: Dayton, Ohio, United States — on-site / office-based. Travel requirement: 0–10%.

Salary: $115,600–$158,900 per year. Bonus eligible; commission not eligible.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and maintain C++ software for complex machine-control applications in Linux environments.
• Develop software components supporting commissioning workflows and machine integration within the hirify.global Earthworks ecosystem.
• Lead technical discussions, architecture and design decisions, technical reviews, and resolution of complex engineering problems.
• Mentor engineers and promote consistent engineering practices across the team.
• Build unit, integration, and system-level test coverage and resolve issues through root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, QA, and distributed engineering teams on planning, requirements, dependencies, risks, and delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of professional C++ development experience with strong object-oriented design and software engineering skills.
• Experience developing and debugging multithreaded applications in Linux-based environments.
• Experience with complex machine-control, real-time, embedded, or highly integrated software applications.
• Strong skills in unit testing, debugging, troubleshooting, code quality, and maintainable software design.
• Ability to lead technical discussions, influence design decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional distributed teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI-assisted development, Agile practices, and Git.
• Knowledge of CAN, Ethernet-based application-layer protocols, and TCP/IP client-server communication.
• Experience with real-time operating systems, Linux internals, embedded development, Conan, Python, Go, or Gherkin.
• Familiarity with machine-control systems, IoT concepts, industrial applications, or Angular.
