Test Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Rio Rancho, New Mexico, United States; testing activities also take place at a site in Midland, Texas. The role involves hands-on work with propulsion hardware, energetic materials, test facilities, and partner ranges.

What you will do

• Develop test plans, procedures, and requirements for solid rocket motor static fires, environmental testing, functional checkout, and vehicle-level integration.
• Design, commission, and operate test fixtures, instrumentation setups, test stands, and data acquisition systems.
• Execute static fire, environmental stress screening, qualification, and production acceptance tests with a strong focus on safe operations.
• Monitor tests in real time, reduce and analyze data, investigate anomalies, and lead root-cause analysis.
• Support flight-test campaigns, including pre-flight checkout, range coordination, telemetry monitoring, and post-flight analysis.
• Improve test processes and safety protocols while coordinating schedules, resources, suppliers, external ranges, and cross-functional engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• 6–10+ years of aerospace or defense test engineering experience, including 3+ years focused on propulsion, solid rocket motors, or missile systems testing.
• Experience developing and executing component- through system-level test programs involving energetic or hazardous testing.
• Hands-on experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, sensors, high-speed data systems, and tools such as LabVIEW or MATLAB.
• Experience with test stand and fixture design, environmental test equipment, static fire testing, thrust measurement, telemetry, and post-test data analysis.
• Access to export-controlled information may require compliance with U.S. Government authorization, security clearance, citizenship, or other eligibility requirements when applicable.

Nice to have

• Solid rocket motor static fire or hypersonic propulsion testing experience on DoD or NASA programs.
• Experience in aerospace startups or other fast-paced aerospace environments.
• Experience scaling test operations for rate production or working with test ranges and range safety processes.
• Familiarity with ITAR-controlled programs and classified testing environments.
