Location: Long Beach, California, United States; travel to test facilities and extended off-site work may be required.

Base salary: $132,000–$220,000 USD annually. Total compensation including equity: $165,000–$277,000 USD annually.

What you will do

  • Plan, prepare, and execute engine and propulsion component testing across development, qualification, and production programs.
  • Own test facilities, equipment, instrumentation, operations, data analysis, and reporting throughout the testing lifecycle.
  • Set testing best practices and review and approve test plans and reports for quality and compliance.
  • Provide technical leadership, training, mentorship, and coaching on testing methodologies and processes.
  • Support risk-based decisions and communicate test findings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Use test-driven insights to improve propulsion system reliability, manufacturability, testability, and performance.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of rocket engine test engineering experience or equivalent high-performance engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, mechatronics, or another technical engineering discipline.
  • Experience with engine test facilities and hot-fire testing of liquid rocket engines, including instrumentation, test operations, and data analysis.
  • Expertise in instrumentation, automation, and data acquisition using National Instruments or Beckhoff PLC.
  • Ability to travel to test facilities and work off-site for extended periods.
  • For U.S. office work, eligibility under ITAR regulations is required, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, refugee or asylee status, or the ability to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

  • Experience with hypergolic propellants and related flight or ground support equipment systems.
  • Technical project leadership, systems engineering, and cross-team management of interfaces and deliverables.
  • Experience investigating and resolving root causes of testing or flight anomalies.
  • Knowledge of aerospace testing such as vibration, shock, thermal, thermal vacuum, helium leak, accelerated life, and margined performance testing.
  • Python for data manipulation, 1D fluid system modeling, government approvals, or a master’s degree or PhD.
