Patient Access Specialist - PRN (Healthcare)

Location: Onsite at Mercy - St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio; candidates must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States. PRN float schedule with flexible availability for 8-hour first, second, and third shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Salary: $17.00–$18.15 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

• Perform admitting, registration, and pre-registration activities for hospital patients.
• Assign accurate medical record numbers, process physician orders, collect demographic and insurance information, and complete compliance checks.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, select insurance plan codes, and support point-of-service collections and clean claims.
• Explain consent, Medicare, Tricare, observation, and other patient forms; obtain signatures and distribute required documents.
• Conduct medical necessity screening using ABN software and document applicable notices.
• Audit patient accounts, correct errors, prepare reports, and operate the hospital telephone switchboard while providing compassionate customer service.

Requirements

• Must work onsite at Mercy - St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.
• Must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States.
• At least 1 year of customer service experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Inquisitive mindset and openness to innovation, including AI-assisted process improvement.
• CRCR certification required within 9 months of hire; certification is company-paid.
