Patient Access Specialist - Full Time Nights (Healthcare)

Location: 245 E. Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL, United States. Onsite role with rotating weekdays and alternating weekends from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM.

Salary: $18.40–$27.60 per hour.

What you will do

• Provide patient-first customer service, answer questions, and escalate complex issues to team leads or operations coordinators.
• Collect and verify patient demographic information, maintain confidentiality under HIPAA, and protect patients from financial or safety risks.
• Schedule appointments, coordinate referrals and consultations, perform medical necessity checks, and guide patients through hospital systems.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, collect authorization numbers, complete out-of-pocket estimates, and address financial account issues.
• Document accurate handoffs and patient communications in Epic, use online order retrieval systems, and send clear Epic messages and telephone encounters.
• Participate in quality assurance, process improvement, cross-training, and staff support activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–3 years of customer service or medical office experience.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Computer data-entry and typing proficiency, including the ability to type 40 words per minute.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, time-management, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work rotating weekdays and alternating overnight weekends onsite in Chicago.

Nice to have

• Additional education or language skills.
• Healthcare finance or healthcare insurance experience.
• Experience in a healthcare setting, especially patient scheduling or registration.
