Medical Interpreter (Arabic)

Location: 633 N. Saint Clair St., Chicago, IL, United States; onsite, full-time day shift

Salary: $24.27–$36.41 per hour

What you will do

• Provide medical and general interpreting for patients, families, physicians, healthcare providers, and staff during consultations, diagnostic testing, procedures, operations, consent processes, and educational forums.
• Assess patients’ and families’ understanding of communicated information and serve as a cultural mediator when appropriate.
• Screen and prioritize multiple interpreter requests based on urgency.
• Support problem solving and complaint resolution related to limited-English-proficient patients.
• Document interpreting encounters, including location, duration, purpose, refusals, productivity, and request volumes.
• Participate in staff meetings, mandatory in-services, professional development, and continuous improvement of interpretation services.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certificate of completion for formal medical interpreter training in accordance with NCIHC National Standards of Practice.
• At least three years of medical interpreting experience in an acute care setting.
• High fluency in English and Arabic, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to interpret accurately, effectively, and impartially using medical terminology.
• Strong communication, organization, customer service, cultural competency, and adaptability skills.
