Outpatient Coder II (Healthcare Coding)

Location: Remote; must reside in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, or Florida

Salary: $30.00–$40.50 per hour

What you will do

• Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes to complex outpatient encounters, including observation stays, same-day surgery, surgery center, and outpatient-in-a-bed cases.
• Review medical records and clinical documentation using knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, and medical terminology.
• Send physician queries when documentation requires clarification and explain coding decisions when requested.
• Resolve NCCI edits using approved hospital modifiers and use 3M Encoder resources to support coding accuracy.
• Analyze coding-system changes, test software modifications, and identify opportunities to improve computer-assisted coding.
• Meet departmental productivity and quality standards of 90% and 95%, respectively.

Requirements

• 3–4 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting.
• RHIT, RHIA, or CCS credential required.
• AHIMA credentialing and completion of 20–30 continuing education credits every two years.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM guidelines, Coding Clinic, HCPCS, CPT, CPT modifiers, and coding conventions.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain at least 95% coding accuracy.
• Must reside in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, Missouri, Michigan, or Florida.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Four years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting.
