Medical Laboratory Scientist (Clinical Research Unit)

Location: 676 N. St. Clair, Chicago, IL, United States. Onsite, full-time day shift.

Salary: USD 34–52.70 per hour.

What you will do

• Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory workflows, including order verification, specimen collection, processing, testing, storage, and reporting.
• Prepare specimens for testing, including microbiology plating, cell cultures, filtering, extraction, separation, elution, and absorption when required.
• Maintain test system integrity through equipment maintenance, reagent verification, inventory monitoring, and quality control procedures.
• Review and interpret test results, perform reflex testing, identify unusual results, and follow critical-value notification protocols.
• Troubleshoot laboratory and workflow issues, escalate unresolved problems, and coordinate testing to meet established turnaround times.
• Support SOP reviews, test development and validation, employee and student training, billing accuracy, safety, and patient confidentiality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related qualifying field.
• General MLS or MT ASCP certification or eligibility, or categorical BB, C, H, or M ASCP certification or eligibility.
• If hired after January 19, 2025, ASCP or equivalent certification must be obtained within one year of employment.
• Ability to follow laboratory protocols, SOPs, quality standards, safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
• Background check authorization is required for newly hired team members and certain internal transfers.
