TL;DR
Patient Service Representative I - Full-Time, Day Shift (Healthcare Revenue Cycle): Conducting patient registration, insurance verification, financial clearance, and payment collection for inpatient and outpatient services with an accent on accurate data capture, pre-authorization, and patient communication. Focus on resolving coverage and financial-liability questions, documenting registration information, and coordinating with patients, physicians, nursing units, and insurers.

Location: Onsite at Lowell General Hospital - Saints Campus in Lowell, Massachusetts, United States. Full-time day shift, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. Three weeks of full-time day-shift training are required.

Pay range: $20.12–$25.15 per hour, based on full-time equivalent.

What you will do

  • Interview inpatients and outpatients and collect accurate demographic, financial, and clinical registration information.
  • Complete pre-registration and financial-clearance activities, including insurance verification and eligibility checks.
  • Obtain treatment consents, authorizations, pre-certifications, referrals, and required notifications.
  • Explain patient financial liabilities, collect payments, and post transactions accurately in the hospital system.
  • Coordinate with patients, representatives, physician offices, physicians, nursing units, insurance companies, and office staff.
  • Maintain confidential financial and health information in accordance with hospital policies and HIPAA requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Computer literacy, accurate data-entry skills, and the ability to learn electronic health record and patient-registration systems.
  • Strong customer-service, interpersonal, telephone, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Knowledge of private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, medical terminology, and patient financial-liability procedures.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk frequently, lift 10–15 pounds, operate a keyboard, and read computer screens and reports.

Nice to have

  • One year of experience in customer service, hospital registration, a medical office, insurance, or a related setting.
