Telecommunication Operator (Healthcare)

What you will do

• Operate hospital paging, answering-service, telephone, intercom, and related communication systems.
• Process incoming and outgoing calls and provide accurate information to patients, staff, physicians, and the public.
• Page physicians and staff, manage pager exchanges, maintain on-call information, and process physician answering-service messages.
• Dispatch Code Blue teams and make notifications for cardiac procedures, emergencies, fires, severe weather, disturbances, and disasters.
• Monitor hospital fire alarms, medical gas alarms, blood bank refrigerator alarms, dietary alarms, and other alarm systems.
• Maintain logs for calls, alarms, emergency events, pagers, keys, patient telephones, equipment issues, and Code Blue events.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–2 years of experience.
• Ability to operate a switchboard console and computer terminal.
• Ability to process calls rapidly, courteously, and professionally while maintaining composure during emergencies.
• Ability to prioritize work, sit for extended periods, and work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; patient-handling equipment is required for heavier patient lifts when applicable.
