Structural Steel Detailer

An established New Zealand industrial engineering and manufacturing company specializing in design, custom fabrication, and specialized production solutions.

What you will do

• Undertake site measures on live and occupied sites, including supermarkets, work at height, and occasional after-hours or night-shift work.
• Produce 3D models and complete shop drawing sets, including general arrangements, assembly drawings, single-part drawings, DXF files, IFC models, and cutting lists.
• Interpret architectural, structural, and services drawings, identify clashes, and account for differences between drawings and as-built conditions.
• Raise and manage RFIs, drawing registers, revisions, issue logs, and approval cycles through Procore and contractor systems.
• Check transport envelopes and coordinate constructability, sequencing, fit-up, fabrication, and erection with project and site teams.
• Support workshop and site crews in resolving fit-up issues and design clashes.

Requirements

• Proven structural steel detailing experience on completed projects.
• Working proficiency in a 3D structural detailing package; the client uses Tekla Structures.
• Sound understanding of steel fabrication and erection, including fit-up, weld access, bolt access, lifting points, and erection sequence.
• Ability to communicate directly and confidently with engineers and head contractor project staff.
• Strong attention to detail and the judgement to raise queries rather than make assumptions.
• Ability to meet fixed approval and fabrication dates across several concurrent jobs.

Nice to have

• Experience with Tekla Structures.
• Experience with New Zealand codes and standards.
• Experience in seismic strengthening and remediation involving irregular existing structures and unreliable as-built records.
