Technical Engineering Design Manager

Location: Hybrid; Baltimore, MD or Washington, DC, USA. Travel: 10%–20%.

Salary: $180,000–$200,000 per year, plus performance-based bonuses and a U.S.-based benefits package.

What you will do

• Lead architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, civil, process, environmental, and security engineering leads through all design phases.
• Translate client mission requirements, process information, and security and hazard criteria into coordinated Bases of Design and progressive design packages.
• Manage value engineering, constructability reviews, material selection, long-lead item identification, and design quality control.
• Resolve cross-disciplinary conflicts and coordinate progressive design reviews from concept through final construction-ready design.
• Act as the primary technical contact for client engineering, security, program management, classification, code, and construction stakeholders.
• Manage design schedules, staffing, budgets, risk assessments, technical narratives, client presentations, proposals, and business development activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, structural, architectural, or related engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• At least 15 years of design experience, including significant work on secure, high-hazard, or federal government facilities.
• At least 5 years of project or program management experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Experience with design-build execution and progressive design development from concept through construction-ready or IFC design.
• Working knowledge of ICD 705, IBC H-2 or comparable hazardous occupancy classifications, and DOE/NNSA facility requirements; ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience coordinating with security, classification, and accreditation authorities on federal programs.
• Familiarity with project scheduling and cost-tracking tools.
