What you will do

• Lead and grow the application and backend engineering team through hiring, mentorship, and performance management.
• Own end-to-end development of web, desktop, Android, and cross-platform applications for Windows, Linux, macOS, and web.
• Develop backend services, APIs, analytics data pipelines, identity and tenancy systems, and software update capabilities.
• Build offline-first tools with local state, synchronization, and full usability when disconnected from backend services.
• Make architecture decisions covering frontend design, build-versus-adopt choices, data models, security, tenancy, and local versus backend state.
• Set engineering and operational quality standards through code review, testing, CI/CD, observability, and on-call practices while remaining hands-on.

Requirements

• Experience leading a software team as a hands-on manager with responsibility for people management and technical direction.
• Strong application development background across modern web, cross-platform desktop, backend services, APIs, data, identity, CI/CD, and observability.
• Experience building offline-capable applications using local-first state and synchronization.
• Strong judgment in application architecture, data modeling, security trade-offs, and build-versus-adopt decisions.
• Ability to manage expectations with leadership, remove blockers, write code, review pull requests, and own architecture across frontend, services, and data.
• Must work from Torrance, California, United States.

Nice to have

• Shipped cross-platform desktop applications using Electron or a similar framework.
• Android development experience, especially for device-facing or field-tool applications.
• Experience with defense, industrial, robotics, or field-deployed applications and backends.
• Experience with streaming, time-series data, telemetry at scale, identity, access control, or multi-tenant systems.
• Experience building an application and backend team from a small nucleus.
