Team Lead, People Technology

Location: Chicago, United States

Annual base salary: $140,000–$180,000, plus an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Own the technical direction and roadmap for eight internal applications supporting recruiting, onboarding, recognition, engagement, and other HR processes.
• Act as the primary engineering partner for Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Talent Management, and HR leadership.
• Assess application health, technical debt, modernization opportunities, support burden, and alignment with engineering standards.
• Write and ship production code across Python, TypeScript/React, Ruby, FastAPI, Flask, Next.js, and PostgreSQL.
• Define staffing needs and partner with leadership to hire the second engineer for the new team.
• Establish support processes, stakeholder communication channels, and operational workflows.

Requirements

• Strong full-stack engineering experience with Python, TypeScript/React, and PostgreSQL.
• Experience owning multiple applications end-to-end, from roadmap planning through delivery and support.
• Ability to translate business needs from non-technical stakeholders into technical solutions.
• High autonomy and the ability to define processes, priorities, and team culture in a founding role.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working closely with HR or other business partners.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby/Sinatra, FastAPI, Flask, or Next.js.
• Previous technical lead or team lead experience, including mentoring junior engineers.
• Familiarity with applicant tracking systems, HRIS platforms, or similar enterprise integrations.
