Principal Mechanical Engineer

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Flexible work arrangements, including work-from-home options, are available. Only Australian citizens will be considered due to Defence project involvement.

What you will do

• Lead the mechanical engineering discipline across complex Defence, Buildings, Infrastructure, and building services projects.
• Provide technical direction and design leadership from concept and FEED through detailed design and project delivery.
• Manage technical risks, review and approve engineering deliverables, and provide quality assurance.
• Develop trusted relationships with clients, project managers, construction partners, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentor engineers and designers and contribute to the technical capability of the broader mechanical team.
• Help integrate digital engineering, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence into project delivery.

Requirements

• Extensive mechanical building services design experience, including HVAC and knowledge of Australian codes and local industry standards.
• Proven ability to lead engineering teams and deliver complex projects to scope, budget, and programme.
• Experience with technical leadership, design reviews, quality assurance, mentoring, and client relationship management.
• Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline.
• Chartered Professional Engineer status or active progress toward Chartership.
• Australian citizenship is required.

Nice to have

• Advanced skills with Revit and CAMEL.
• Experience with condition assessments, design assurance, safety-in-design, equipment selection, and major project delivery.
• Experience in defence, commercial, transport, healthcare, industrial, education, or major infrastructure sectors.
