TL;DR
Lead Manufacturing Engineer, Harnessing (Defense) (Wiring Harnesses/Cable Assemblies): Developing, qualifying, and scaling manufacturing processes, test systems, and supplier capabilities for high-reliability harness assemblies supporting next-generation defense systems with an accent on process ownership, production readiness, and electrical validation. Focus on building in-house manufacturing capability, qualifying external suppliers, and solving complex challenges in defect-free, high-rate production.
Location: Torrance, California, United States; onsite role

What you will do
- Own harness manufacturing processes from incoming materials through fabrication, inspection, electrical testing, and final acceptance.
- Develop work instructions, MBOMs, process flows, tooling standards, manufacturing specifications, and scalable production systems.
- Lead the development of in-house harness manufacturing capabilities, including equipment, automation, test infrastructure, and workforce training.
- Qualify and develop external harness suppliers through audits, capability assessments, readiness reviews, process validation, and corrective actions.
- Partner with design engineering on manufacturability, testability, connector selection, routing, strain relief, serviceability, and assembly robustness.
- Drive production readiness, quality gates, continuous improvement, and metrics for yield, defects, throughput, labor efficiency, cycle time, and cost.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- At least 4 years of manufacturing engineering experience with wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, electrical integration, or electromechanical hardware.
- Experience owning manufacturing processes and scaling hardware from prototype through production.
- Strong hands-on technical capability and experience leading engineers and technicians through complex manufacturing challenges.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and comply with ITAR eligibility requirements.
- Access to export-controlled information may require U.S. Government authorization, security clearance, citizenship, or other eligibility requirements.
Nice to have
- High-reliability aerospace or defense harness manufacturing experience.
- Familiarity with IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA-STD-8739.4, or similar workmanship standards.
- Experience with continuity, insulation resistance, dielectric withstand/HiPot, and functional electrical testing.
- Experience with DFM, manufacturing readiness reviews, root-cause analysis, process qualification, and external supplier development.
- Experience building, mentoring, and technically leading manufacturing engineering and technician teams.
