Onboard Engineer (Autonomous Mining Systems)

Location: Phoenix, Arizona, US; onsite five days a week with 30–50% travel. Domestic relocation is available.

Salary: $112,710–$169,060 per year

What you will do

• Own onboard hardware health and fleet availability for autonomous haul trucks.
• Analyze machine performance, reliability, failure trends, fault codes, and operational data to improve uptime and productivity.
• Support the integration of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and autonomous control systems.
• Lead root-cause investigations and develop practical solutions with engineering, dealer, maintenance, and customer teams.
• Provide technical guidance to maintenance and operations personnel and present findings to customer stakeholders and leadership.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to validate product improvements and support field testing.

Requirements

• Experience with large mobile mining equipment, heavy machinery, autonomous systems, hydraulic systems, powertrain components, or machine controls.
• Strong troubleshooting, reliability engineering, root-cause analysis, and failure investigation skills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, maintenance data, and machine health information.
• Ability to work effectively in mining or industrial environments and support cross-functional teams.
• Strong communication skills for translating technical issues into practical recommendations.
• Onsite work five days a week in Phoenix, Arizona, with 30–50% travel required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with autonomous mining technologies, fleet management systems, or Cat MineStar solutions.
