TL;DR
Product Development Engineer (Automotive): Designing, prototyping, testing, and launching mechanical components and assemblies with an accent on product performance, manufacturability, materials, and quality processes. Focus on FEA, DFMEA, GD&T, APQP/PPAP activities, failure analysis, and resolving complex product and process requirements with customers and suppliers.

What you will do

  • Design, modify, prototype, and assemble mechanical components, assemblies, and product concepts.
  • Evaluate functionality, materials, packaging, manufacturability, cost, service life, wear, and overall product performance.
  • Perform engineering calculations, simulations, design verification, validation testing, benchmarking, and failure investigations.
  • Apply FEA, DFMEA, DFSS, DFM/DFA, structured problem-solving, and risk assessment methods to optimize designs.
  • Support product launches through APQP, PPAP, testing, production readiness, and process improvement activities.
  • Provide technical support to customers, suppliers, commercial teams, and internal functions while managing multiple projects and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Product design or product development experience; automotive product development experience is preferred.
  • Ability to design mechanical components and assemblies and assess manufacturing feasibility.
  • Knowledge of machine dynamics, strength, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, materials, wear, dimensions, weight, and service life.
  • Ability to prepare and review engineering drawings and data records, including GD&T.
  • Strong technical communication, decision-making, organization, independent work, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or another technical field.
  • Experience with rubber, thermoplastics, thermosets, composites, and related manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Siemens NX, CATIA, or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Knowledge of APQP, PPAP, Design Verification testing, Product Validation processes, and customer-specific requirements.
