Flight Software Engineer Trainee (Aerospace)

Location: Barcelona, Spain; hybrid internship with regular on-site presence at the Barcelona HQ

Sateliot is a Barcelona-based satellite company developing a constellation that enables standard commercial devices to communicate directly from space.

What you will do

• Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of on-board software components in C or C++.
• Write and run unit and integration tests, analyse results, and maintain verification evidence.
• Integrate on-board software with spacecraft subsystems using laboratory benches and the FlatSat.
• Investigate software, hardware, and interface issues using logs, debuggers, and engineering tools.
• Participate in code reviews and workflows involving Git, documentation, and continuous integration.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, telecommunications, electronics, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
• Solid foundations in C or C++ from coursework, academic projects, or personal projects.
• Basic understanding of embedded systems and interest in real-time operating systems and spacecraft software.
• Structured problem-solving approach, attention to quality, and effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Must be based in Barcelona and able to attend the office regularly.
• Must be enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant programme and eligible to sign an internship agreement with a university or study centre where required.

Nice to have

• Python or another scripting language for automation, data analysis, or test tooling.
• Experience with embedded software, microcontrollers, single-board computers, or hands-on engineering projects.
• Familiarity with UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, RS-422, or RS-485.
• Experience with Linux, Git, unit testing, or CI/CD.
• Interest in space systems and safety-critical software.
