TL;DR
Software Engineer - On Board Processing (Rust): Designing and maintaining satellite flight software and supporting ground tools for Linux and RTOS-based space systems with an accent on reliability, traceability, and mission-critical performance. Focus on integrating spacecraft subsystems, validating software through testing and CI/CD, and building fault-tolerant solutions for post-launch operations.

Location: Hybrid in Harwell, UK; Porto, Portugal; Athens, Greece; or Barcelona, Spain. Candidates must have the legal right to work in their chosen location.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, validate, and maintain satellite flight software.
  • Develop features for Linux and RTOS-based systems and support robust ground tools.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing campaigns, CI/CD, build, and integration activities.
  • Maintain configuration control, documentation, and software traceability throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Systems, Electronics, and Mission Operations teams to integrate and test spacecraft subsystems.
  • Contribute to post-launch operations and improve software architecture, reliability, maintainability, and delivery efficiency.

Requirements

  • Strong programming skills in Rust, or solid C/C++ experience with the ability to transition to Rust in production.
  • Experience with compiled and object-oriented programming, Linux development environments, scripting, and command-line tools.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and automation tools including GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, and pytest.
  • Knowledge of secure coding, fault-tolerant design, software verification and validation, testing strategies, and traceability.
  • Working knowledge of spacecraft subsystems such as ADCS, EPS, communications, and payload systems, plus RTOS concepts.
  • Awareness of ECSS standards and fault detection, isolation, and recovery principles.
