Heavy Equipment Operator

Location: Sterling, Virginia, United States; onsite work in the Northern Virginia region

Salary: $35.00–$45.00 per hour

What you will do

• Operate heavy equipment safely and appropriately at construction job sites.
• Drive and control equipment to complete excavation and site preparation activities.
• Monitor ground and slope conditions and maintain safe distances from people, structures, and other equipment.
• Perform daily pre-inspections, ongoing maintenance checks, and basic troubleshooting.
• Load and unload equipment transported by vehicles and report maintenance needs to the supervisor.
• Complete equipment-use paperwork and communicate through phones, radios, and hand signals.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three to five years of equipment operating experience in a construction environment, including one to three years of excavation experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations related to excavation methods and practices.
• Ability to interpret load charts and manufacturer-approved attachments.
• Ability to work outdoors in safe weather conditions and use required PPE.
• Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

Nice to have

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER training with a current 8-hour refresher.
• OSHA 30-hour training and First Aid/CPR certification.
