CMS Implementation Engineer (Drupal & Wagtail) - Contractor

Location: Albuquerque, NM, USA; preferred candidates from New Mexico and West Texas must be willing to travel on-site to Socorro, NM, up to two times during the project lifecycle.

What you will do

• Implement responsive CMS page models, structured content types, reusable components, and publishing workflows in Drupal and/or Wagtail.
• Build the GeoInfo website information architecture, including taxonomy, menus, breadcrumbs, URL routing, and 301 redirect mappings.
• Execute migration of priority content, relational data, PDFs, scientific images, datasets, and other legacy digital assets into structured CMS libraries.
• Coordinate with project, product, design, content, infrastructure, security, and agency stakeholders on compliant and accessible architecture.
• Integrate third-party institutional systems, APIs, and enterprise databases such as Ellucian Banner.
• Lead technical testing, defect resolution, launch readiness, and production deployment for the Q2 2027 milestone.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of hands-on CMS development and technical implementation experience across multiple production website builds and large-scale migrations.
• Direct proficiency with Drupal, including PHP, Composer, Twig, and custom modules, and/or Wagtail, including Python, Django, StreamField, and Page models.
• Experience with structured content, reusable templates, atomic components, custom fields, and multi-tier editorial workflows.
• Experience with content migration pipelines, database transformation scripts, digital asset migrations, web QA, cross-browser testing, WCAG accessibility, and deployment procedures.
• Experience managing implementation sprints, tickets, pull requests, and bug backlogs in Jira or comparable agile tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation, architectural decision records, and handoff guides.

• New Mexico or West Texas residency with willingness to travel on-site to Socorro, NM, up to two times.
• Experience building web solutions for higher education, scientific research, geological surveys, or public-sector agencies.
