Lead Software Architect (Mainframe & Legacy Modernization)

Location: Remote, but must reside in the United States; light travel to the Omaha, Nebraska area may be required.

What you will do

• Lead architecture strategy and solution design for complex enterprise technology initiatives.
• Assess mainframe and legacy applications and create modernization plans for cloud-ready platforms.
• Design distributed, cloud-native solutions using APIs, microservices, events, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Create target-state architectures, solution blueprints, integration designs, architecture decision records, and technical standards.
• Evaluate AI, automation, intelligent workflows, and predictive analytics through workshops, prototypes, and feasibility analysis.
• Coach architects, engineers, and analysts while communicating architecture risks, trade-offs, investment considerations, and business value.

Requirements

• Must reside in the United States; the role does not provide visa sponsorship.
• 8+ years of progressively increasing responsibility in architecture, enterprise architecture, software engineering, solution design, or modernization.
• Expertise in mainframe and legacy modernization, cloud-native and distributed architectures, APIs, microservices, events, and integration patterns.
• Advanced knowledge of AWS, Java, containerization, mainframe technologies, programming languages, and relational and non-relational databases.
• Experience with Domain Driven Design, DevSecOps, CI/CD, AI and data architecture, governance, security, privacy, compliance, and enterprise risk management.
• Leadership experience in Agile and SAFe environments, with strong communication, stakeholder management, and strategic thinking skills.

Nice to have

• TOGAF certification.
• Insurance industry experience.
• Experience with AWS services including S3, Bedrock, SageMaker, EC2, Amazon Connect, CDK, and SDKs.
• Practical familiarity with autonomous AI systems or participation in architecture and engineering communities.
