Principal Software Architect (AI/Healthcare Data): Defining the technical vision, reference architecture, and reusable application foundations for a cloud-based healthcare data platform with an accent on multi-tenant SaaS, distributed data systems, security, compliance, and agent-assisted engineering. Focus on designing resilient AWS and Azure architectures, converting standards into AI development rules and evaluation mechanisms, and guiding production readiness across data, application, integration, and cloud layers.
Location: United States; remote work from anywhere is available.

What you will do
- Own and evolve the reference architecture for data ingestion, transformation, distribution, serving, applications, and services.
- Set architecture standards for high availability, disaster recovery, serverless patterns, multi-tenant SaaS, secure operations, and cloud scalability across AWS and Azure.
- Design healthcare payer data solutions covering claims, membership, provider, clinical, laboratory, and pharmacy domains.
- Build reusable application foundations, including design systems, application blueprints, API and data contracts, user-management patterns, and production-readiness gates.
- Translate architecture standards into skills, rules, templates, and evaluation rubrics for agent-assisted development and assess AI-generated code against architectural standards.
- Mentor engineers and Solution Architects, establish lightweight architecture governance, and partner with Product Engineering, AI Engineering, Security, DevOps, and Client Solutions.
Requirements
- 15+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial experience in senior architecture roles.
- Principal-level individual-contributor leadership with experience defining enterprise architecture standards and mentoring without formal management authority.
- Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Azure, containers, Kubernetes, Git-based CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, observability, and secure production operations.
- Experience with distributed data platforms and processing, including technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, or Spark, plus Python, API-first services, React/TypeScript, identity, authorization, and multi-tenant SaaS.
- Working knowledge of LLM-enabled applications, MCP/A2A, LangGraph or comparable orchestration, AI-assisted developer tools, agent-driven development, retrieval and context patterns, evaluation, and responsible AI controls.
- Knowledge of healthcare data ecosystems and HITRUST, GovRamp, or comparable compliance frameworks, along with strong communication skills and a relevant bachelor's or master's degree or equivalent experience.
Nice to have
- Experience building reference architectures, design systems, or developer platforms used by multiple teams.
- Experience defining standards, rules, or evaluation rubrics for AI- or agent-assisted development workflows.
- Experience with FHIR-based interoperability or other healthcare data exchange standards.
