Backend Software Engineer (Java)

Salary: $160,000–$230,000 per year

What you will do

• Design and implement control-plane and data-plane features for Openflow.
• Build and operate distributed systems supporting batch and streaming workloads across Snowflake and external environments.
• Deliver small projects end to end, from requirements clarification and technical design through implementation, testing, rollout, and improvements.
• Monitor and support production services, participate in on-call rotations, respond to incidents, and contribute to post-incident reviews.
• Improve performance, scalability, reliability, observability, security, and maintainability through metrics, profiling, testing, and experimentation.
• Collaborate on technical planning, code reviews, design discussions, platform tooling, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of industry experience building and operating backend or platform services, including distributed systems.
• Strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, systems design, operating systems, networking, concurrency, replication, partitioning, streaming, and fault tolerance.
• Proficiency in Java or a similar object-oriented language such as Scala, Go, or C++.
• Experience building cloud-native services on AWS, Azure, or GCP with containers, CI/CD, monitoring, and logging.
• Ability to deliver maintainable solutions, communicate technical trade-offs, and collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and design.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with data integration, observability, or streaming technologies such as Apache NiFi, Kafka, Flink, or Airflow.
• Experience with analytics or data platforms.
