Research Operations, Reinforcement Learning (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States. Hybrid policy: staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time; some roles may require more office presence.

Annual salary: $210,000–$260,000 USD.

What you will do

• Shape reinforcement learning leadership priorities, weekly agendas, and decision-focused meetings.
• Triage requests, resolve issues, route work, and escalate decisions appropriately.
• Prepare leaders for decisions, communicate outcomes, and track commitments through completion.
• Identify resourcing gaps, technical bottlenecks, and stalled action items before they become blockers.
• Draft organization-wide announcements, planning materials, and other durable communications.
• Improve recurring operational processes and provide candid strategic counsel to senior leaders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field.
• Technical fluency sufficient to engage with reinforcement learning training runs, evaluation results, model training, and research discussions.
• Strong writing, analytical thinking, dashboard judgment, follow-through, and attention to detail.
• Ability to challenge senior stakeholders constructively, influence without direct authority, and operate effectively in ambiguity.
• Experience in operations, chief of staff, program management, or a comparable role in a fast-moving technical organization.
• High integrity and strong commitment to Anthropic’s mission.

Nice to have

• Experience directly supporting a senior leader in a chief of staff or related role.
• Experience in a research institution, laboratory, or research-heavy organization.
• Experience moving routine operational work to AI agents or building small scripts and tools.
• Familiarity with AI safety or existential risks.
