Residential Claims Specialist - Desk

Location: Markham, Ontario, Canada; the role includes field meetings with clients, witnesses, and other parties as required.

Salary: $79,100–$106,400 CAD annually.

What you will do

• Manage complex, high-risk residential claims, including claims with resolution timelines exceeding one year.
• Meet with clients, witnesses, and other parties to obtain statements and negotiate settlements.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and business partners to resolve claims accurately and on time.
• Control costs, minimize claims leakage, and identify and manage potential fraud.
• Maintain compliant claim documentation and escalate non-standard or high-risk claims.
• Provide subject matter expertise, coaching, and guidance on complex claims scenarios and process improvements.

Requirements

• Extensive experience handling complex residential insurance claims.
• Litigation claims experience and experience managing high-risk, high-severity claims.
• Expert knowledge of the residential claims lifecycle, fraud processes, insurance regulations, and compliance requirements.
• Applicable industry accreditation and credentials.
• Excellent judgment, decision-making, negotiation, communication, organization, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work independently in complex and ambiguous situations and operate at maximum claims authority, escalating selected claims when required.
