Senior Patient Access Specialist (Healthcare)

Location: Newport News, Virginia; limited to individuals who reside and are authorized to work within the United States

Salary: $18.65–$19.90 per hour, based on experience

What you will do

• Perform patient admissions, assign accurate medical record numbers, process physician orders, and collect demographic and insurance information.
• Complete medical necessity, compliance, eligibility, and insurance verification checks to support clean claims and billing.
• Collect point-of-service payments, explain payment plans and consent forms, and distribute required patient and Medicare documents.
• Audit patient accounts, correct errors, maintain documentation, and provide statistical reporting to Patient Access leadership.
• Develop training materials and continuing education for new and existing staff.
• Create department schedules and provide on-call, after-hours, and staffing coverage support.

Requirements

• 1–3 years of relevant experience.
• Associate degree or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of revenue cycle operations, including admissions, billing, payments, and denials.
• Knowledge of insurance authorization, benefits verification, health insurance requirements, medical terminology, CPT, or procedure codes.
• Must reside in and be authorized to work within the United States.
• Ability to provide compassionate customer service and comply with healthcare regulations and organizational procedures.
